The Davids

I thought they both did pretty well last night, but I agree with Simon that David A. had the edge. I know many of you expressed you don't like his soft style, but I guess that's just going to be his niche, like country for Carrie Underwood or rock edge for Bo Bice , David C & Chris Daughtry.

BTW.......I found it interesting that the flashback intro included non-winner Chris Daughtry while Ryan was speaking about the contestants having to be there very best to move on to "stardom".

  • I personally felt that the Archulator was definitely being "pimped" by the judges. I thought DC's edgier style and songs showed much more creativity and talent. DA was "pitchy" in places but when you hear the song for the new single of course you can see that they want DA to win. This song was written for him.
    • David A has a beatiful voice---and he's a sweet kid. Via his special niche he'll do ok, but David C is my pick after all he is a man, not a boy~! And as Simon indicated seems to be a genuinely nice guy----Or course David A will win, but wasn't that already a done deal, I think that's one reason David Cook did it his way, choosing the song that spoke to him instead of vying for votes. Really what did he have to lose, he's got a record deal and probably will be as successful or more so than young Master DA...and ain't that cool?
      • It may actually be a blessing for David A if he doesn't win, if his father is the 'stage dad" he's been rumored to be.
        • randy said something about it being the best 2007 ever!
          • I was surprised no one called him on it. My son looked at me and said, "it did say that it was recorded earlier".
            • we replayed that part a couple times, and while i know he said "THE DUEL OF 2007" maybe he meant to say "THE DUEL OF SEASON 7" but fucking mushmouthed it
              • "THE DUEL OF [dudes who first auditioned in] 2007!"
                • the whole boxing theme was really fucking annoying. and if paula made one more comment that tied in with the song ("you may not have found what you were looking for, but we have david!") i was going to throw my bowl at the screen! but it did make for a fun game through the rest of the show ("another one another one another one DOES BITE THE DUST DAVID!" or "i keep on falling IN LOVE WITH YOUR SONGS!")
                  • This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Yay my man CooK WON< I can't frak'n believe it.....Haaa~! Did you notice how Simon pack peddled--after he more or less declared David A to be the winner last night~! He said he was being disprespectful to David C, yayayayay....he knew he'd won and he looked like a boob. Hehe.....Oh well, maybe it's not for the best but I'm still happy! Carrie Underwood is doing ok, and looking damn good. *G*
                    • I think DC won because they didn't want to deal with DA's Father
                      • I'm just psyched...I was sure the Archulator would take it, ad the Cookster totally deserved the win. I really did not expect it. Neither did he!
                      • That would make sense if the show producers or anyone connected with the show chose the winner......but the public votes, so how would the public need to deal with his father? Though, the executives with the show will still have DA's father to deal with as he will have to be part of the tour & hopefully his father's invovlement won't hinder him from getting a record deal of his own eventually.

I wanted DA to win, but as the night went on, I sensed more & more that David C was the actual winner. I had read an article online that said Cook would win because America knew they screwed it up 2 years ago by booting Chris Daughtry off so early. I don't know how much truth is in that, I don't know that America is that thought out, and really just voted for whom they liked best of the final contestants.

As for the show itself: I could have done without the shameless Mike Myers movie plug and can they please drop the tribute section to the "awful", that just encourages those people even more to show up for auditions. I did like Carrie Underwood, ZZ Top/Cook, Nash/Brooke.

And I absolutely could not stand Amanda whats her name. The rock n roll chick, she (to me) is really a one trick pony. She sounded so out of place with those up- beat "pop/disco songs. She ran all the words together, I couldn't understand her portion of the songs.
                        • I can't believe there are still people who believe America's vote matters...
The producers have a lot more say than you think....
Producers could've gotten rid of DA when ever they wanted too but didn't because dad would put a lawsuit on them..
Biggest slap in the face is to lose at the finals...

I also heard that the phone systems were messed up on voting nigh.. It's easy to rig that system. More open lines for one person than another... Yes the votes are counted that way but if the closed lines were open would the count be the same?

American Idol has their eye on the winner from the get go...

Daughtry wasn't booted by America... Daughtry signed a record deal while on the show with AI .. They had him in their pocket anways so him winning didn't matter...
                          • You can't mean in this world of integrity, that they'd cheat? chuckle* Surely not! *S*
                            • It really doesn't matter who wins. If AI's Record labels want to sign someone from Idol they will no matter who wins.. Everyone on the show signs paper work stating they can only sign with a AI approved label within a certain time frame..

American Idol will get their $ no matter who wins..
                              • Tim:

Do you have a link to this paperwork, such as the form AI contract? As a lawyer, I have to admit I would love to read it over. Most curious.
                                • Oh also.....

                                  WOOOOO David Cook.

I believe he is the most talented artist/perfomer AI has seen in a long time, if ever. Archuleta's purely beautiful voice can't compare to Cook's complete package, who also has a great voice. Plus, I love Cook's style.
                                  • What an overproduced cheesefest the finale was. But it had its moments. While watching most of the performances, the phrase 'contractual obligation' kept repeating in my head. Most of the duets were terrible matches IMO, like Syesha & Seal - she's actually a far better singer but the two were way outta tune with each other. Brook's duet was actually very nice & was a perfect match. The Cook/ZZ Top jam was not too great, the song was too one-dimensional to showcase his vocals, & they missed their mark after the solo & went two full measures too long. Mike Meyers was enjoyable in spite of his 'shameless' plug, and showed us why David C won. David A could only sit there like a lump while David C played a good straight man to Meyers' silliness as long as he could. I actually thought David A's duet was really well done, and was a perfect fit for him. That latest boy band to hit the scene, the whatever brothers, was just disgusting. This is one aspect of young people's music I just dont get. Our music was so much cooler when I was a kid. I just cant take that whiny, disneyesque, pseudo-punkrock. As Simon might say, it was like watching a bunch of poodles in studded leather jackets. And lets not forget the wildly gesticulating, overly mellodramatic delivery of George Michael. Until the two were together on stage, I woulda sworn it was Ryan doing an impression of him. Sorry to say it Georgie-poo, but Carrie blew you outta the water a few weeks ago when she sang Praying For Time. She kicked ass again last night. David C's final song was very well done, great way to cap off the season.
                                    • Syesha is a "far better singer" than Seal? Did I read that right?
                                      • "Syesha is a "far better singer" than Seal? Did I read that right?"

She was last night. Tho in Seals defense, I think it was her that was off on a few of those parts. Vocally, Seal aint what he used to be, & that also seemed the case with Donna Summer & a bit of Brian Adams - tho he had great energy.
                                • Well this article is 6 years old, posted following the first season, but it discusses various terms of the K that ALL S1 contestants had to sign. Apparently the contestants were given a few hours to sign it on a "take it or leave it basis" and one kid brought the K to a lawyer to review. The lawyer advised he NOT enter the competition.

                                  dir.salon.com/story/ent/f.../index1.html

Having read over the provisions included in this article, and taking them as true, this K essentially requires the contestants to sell their soul, even if they come in tenth! It doesn't necessarily prevent them from doing what they want, but they must ALWAYS be at 19 Records beck and call for the rest of their lives. I don't think I would sign it. I KNOW I wouldn't sign it. Hell, maybe I would sign it, go on AI, and then hire a lawyer and file suit to set it aside since its a K of adhesion and such contracts are often not enforceable. Anyway, happy readings....If anyone has anything more current or complete, I'd love to read it.
                            • yeah, silly me for not buying into the conspiracy theories and actually thinking that the show would bide by it's own rules.
                              :(

I know the possibility of things being rigged is not new, but has anybody ever been able to prove it. Perhaps we need a 20/20 type investigation to "undercover" :)

So, are all the Idols winners & losers with record deals on AI labels??? I don't know what that covers except for Clive Davis' label of RCA and (i think) BMG.
                              • here is where i disagree with past versions of my own self:

american idol is, i think, capable of swaying public opinion towards certain candidates, but they aren't fixing the finale.
my proof???? Taylor Hicks. Titties McGee might have been a new Kelly Clarkson, but instead we got Taylor, the new Fantasia.
                                • Yeah, I bet they would've preferred Kat to win, but I doubt she would've been remotely as successful as Kelly considering she hasn't done much of note since her season, yet Chris Daughtry has been extremely successful. I'm sure she signed a record deal which included marketing. Besides marrying an old dude and making an AI appearance, what is she up to?
                                  • Kat didn't have IT whatever it is, she doesn' t have it, in the same way that Carly doesn't~! Amazing isn't it how some seem to possess the package, looks, talent.....but it fizzles flat.

Now David Cook grew on me, at first I was like uh....ahh, the hair and he's just not that charismatic, but how wrong was I? I agree I like his style and he genuinely seems like a nice guy. This could be one for ZEN, because he wasn' t that keen to win, and he did just by doing his personal best without getting caught up in the results. Even as he didn't choose to re-do one of his better performances to WIN. HE did it his way minus arrogance........ I'm loving that David Cook won!
        • Hope he can get loose from the hell, the "pageant" life, he has been in forever.
Poor thing has been locked in a cage his whole existence.
