Ramiele Malubay or Kristy Lee Cook... I'd be fine with either.

      1. Syesha Mercado: Just ok, nothing special, kinda cruise-shippy. After nailing last week unexpectedly well I was hoping for another above average performance.

      2. Chikezie: So far he’s been overlooked & underappreciated by the judges & fans alike. Now how can anyone not be entertained by his latest? That was awesome! Who knew a smooth R&B singer could rock out, not to mention bust out some bluegrass groovin too? Its time for Chikezie to get his due cred!

      3. Rameile Mulabay: Stuck in first gear AGAIN & never shifted. Very pretty tho, but very dull. Me & the wife laughed for several minutes once Randy echoed our sentiments in deadpan fashion - “Yeah, that was pretty boring, yo.”

      4. Jason Castro: Hmm, I wonder what was so familiar about his performance... oh yeah, it was THE EXACT SAME THING HE DID LAST WEEK! Acoutic guitar, stool, same sweet heartfelt sound, just an exact repeat of last week to the point of being interchangable.

      5. Carly Smithson: Her best effort to date. She can rule a rockin ballad, but this time she just rocked. Consistently & solidly above average.

      6. David Cook: Pure genius two weeks running. He’s really found his sound. He keeps choosing songs with a sardonic lyrical bent, magnified tenfold by his vocal style. He officially just pulled ahead of the pack.

      7. Brooke White: Her piano seemed a bit of a distraction for her singing, but she still did a great job. She has real emotion, & would sound good doing patriotic music with stirring lyrics. Another consistently good performer.

      8. David Hernandez: Ive been a fan, but this was not good. It was a single layer cake with seven layers of frosting. The things he was doing that made him stand out before are now being overly exaggerated.

      9. Amanda Overmeyer: Whatever umph she was lacking last week has been reclaimed! She’s FINALLY reached the point I was hoping she would attain. The trick to singing like Janis is to NOT sing a Janis song. Last week her hair was her biggest visual distraction, this week it was her biggest attraction. She’s still carrying around that ‘hard life’ vibe tho, & I wonder if singing in bars for so long has dampened her passion somewhat.

      10. Michael Johns: Good job, could have been great. He took too long to reach his stride, and then never quite reached it. He got real close tho, I was so close to feeling real inspiration - if he only had added just an extra little sumthin...

      11. Kristy Lee Cook: Dolly Pardon on helium. It’d be funny if it werent so sad. All she was missing was a hillbilly slapping his ass in the background while galloping around with a horsehead on a stick. Ill be having nightmares about the resurgence of Hee-Haw for weeks.

      12. David Archuleta: Time for an old saw... ‘My how the mighty have fallen’. There was really nowhere else for him to go. Hes been put on a pedestal & has been getting huge facetime on Youtube. Basically a crash & burn scenario. Fortunately for him, he has a lot of time for a recovery, because he’s not going anywhere for a while. But he DID do a faceplant off his own pedestal, & David Cook seems more than happy to take his place at the top (for the time being...............).

I largely agree with your assessments Quasi. There are a couple of people who are clearly outclassed in this competition (albeit by talent, personality or originality) and I hope one of them goes home tonight. Kristy Lee was a disaster and Ramiele not far behind. I am not sure what happened to her b/c the first week (top 24) she was awesome. Since then, not so much. And she sings nothing but ballads. I find her performances interchangeable. I also agree that Jason's performances are often very similar, but he is distinct in general so its not as boring to me as Ramiele. And he does have that connectability factor. Nonetheless, I would like to see him stir it up.

Ok, so no doubt David A blew it last night for which he and he alone is completely accountable. But it is not his fault that the judges and media hyped him up so much. So for those people kind of gloating in his fall, I dont really think that is necessary or right (and remember, he is only 17 years old). Since we are all fairly certain he will survive this debacle, it might actually be good for him. Perhaps if it lowers overall expectations he can breathe more deeply. Like you said, he really had no place to go but down. However, now he has room to climb again.

I think the boys are stronger than the girls this year in general. I really only like 3 of the girls: Carly, Brooke and Amanda, and even Amanda I am iffy on at times. But I really like all the guys, although I'd have to say Hernandez is my least favorite. I love David Cook and its very hard not to like Jason Castro and David A (notwithstanding last night's gaffe). However Chikeze is making quite a case for himself and Michael Johns is consistently good and performs music I enjoy. Definitely looking forward to this season.

On another note, do people agree the format of 6 girls and 6 guys is best? B/c some seasons girl 7 and 8 are better than boy 5 and 6 (and vice versa). I know after season 3 (where i believe it was 8 girls and 4 boys) they switched the format to ensure 6-6 split. But is that really the better method? If this is about finding the best talent/superstar, why should gender play a factor? Just wondering what people think....B/c I for one think some of the boys eliminated this season are better than some of the girls who stayed (e.g. Danny Noriega vs. Kristy Lee Cook).

OK I admit it, I was a teensey tiny bit pleased to see David A blow it. In the end, I think I was more uncomfortable FOR him than happy AGAINST him. For me, its all about the competition, and when someone shoots out the gate so far ahead of everyone else, I wanna see him start to lose ground and/or some others gain ground. Nothing personal on him, he certainly deserves his accolades and his particular style is hugely popular right now, which further explains the imbalance in the attention he's been given. But I dont care how old he is, I judge solely by performance. BTW, Jordyn Sparks was also 17 & she didnt need to use her age as a crutch.

Regarding the 6/6 guy/girl split, I agree that it seems unfair. I think the judges should just pick the top 24 talents, regardless of sex.

David A isn't using his age as an excuse - I pointed it out. And it bears noting that Jordin Sparks didn't come into her own until much later in the game. I am not taking anything away from Jordin, but she was actually quite marginalized by Simon et al in the early goings, unlike David whom Simon practically crowned at the top 20 portion. So whereas David has a lot of pressure/expectations upon him, Jordin was under the radar and had the ability to improve (her early round performances were average - good enough to keep her in the competition, but thats about it). Now granted, David A is wholly responsible for forgetting lyrics and Jordin certainly never did that, but if you look back at her body of work as a whole, she was leagues behind David at this point in the competition last year. And just for perspective sake, I like David A but I prefer David C, Jason, Carly and Brooke so I am not a rabid fan defending him or anything. :)

"Practically crowned..." - thats def. the way it seemed, like he was being groomed to win from the start.

Your comparison to the Jordyn year is interesting... Ive been rolling my eyes every time they say its the "most talented year ever" but if you start making comparisons, it actually begins to ring true.

Missed the show last night so I'm watching the performances online now.

Amanda... I can't help it, I love her. Nice pants baby. Keep rockin, keep coming back.

Brooke... so far, she's a sure thing for the Final 2. She'll have to do something drastically wrong, or someone else will have to blow it out to move ahead of her consistently great performances.

Carly... She's got a good voice. Nice tat. I dunno though, she's kinda boring.

Chikezie... WTF? Before this I didn't like him at all. Who knew this was his niche? The bluegrass intro was fantastic - do you think he personally drove that arrangement? or someone else suggested it? And he actually has a personality and a voice and a presence! Who knew! I hope he can keep picking songs that show his goods as much as this did. Great job. Now... get a fashion clue.

David A... Did he really forget the lyrics at the beginning? Poor kid. So much hype, it must be hard. He's marketable, he'll be back for another chance. Personally... he's talented and all, but he doesn't appeal to me much.

David Cook... I never even noticed him before. I'm noticing now. I'm also noticing that he could use some help with that hair. I'm just sayin.

David Hernandez... Buh-bye. Unless maybe, by some miracle, he comes back next week - if so then dude better step up to the plate and knock it out of the park like our man Chikezie or he's outta there.

Jason... until now, Bo Bice was the only AI contestant I ever wanted to fuck. Please bring Jason back next week. He doesn't even have to sing... just let him play guitar and make those uber sensitve faces. Though I really would like to hear him sing some more. He's swell.

Kristy... How bout we just let Kristy and David H arm wrestle for who's gonna let the door hit them in the ass first?

Michael Johns... is it possible he's too good? Is it ageism on my part that he already seems like a pro? I like him, but for some reason I think he should front a band instead of being a solo artist. Either way, he'll be back.

Ramiele... I don't think she'll make it to the end, but she's got a pretty voice. I'd like to see her have another chance.

Syesha... Good, not great. She and Ramiele can arm wrestle for the next exodus spot after Kristy and David H go home.

It seems I'm in the minority here..........I just don't get the whole Amanda vibe. IMHO......she's a decent singer, but I'm not on board with the "raves" she is getting. I feel much of what she's done so far all sounds about the same......it'd be interesting to see if they had a true "ballad" night if she would pull it off or if she's stuck in that rock n roll style.

man i been hating amanda overmyer since the first time they showed her. you didn't even need to hear her sing, you knew she was going to attempt to sound like janis. i hate everything about her world-weary hot topic "i work hard tough as nails" shit.

I'm not a big Amanda fan, but then I wasn't crazy about Janis Joplin......she's more hype than talent, but she's adds flavor to the mix---something to spice UP things. Amanda you go girl.

I'm quickly becoming a David Cook fan---he just lacks charisma, and the hair---THE HAIR MUST GO. Go bald, shorter, something, it's GREASY and NOT sexy. But whatever the kid can sing--and his voice isn't average run of the mill David Hernandez, he has a distinct sound. Now Kristy Cook, the cowgirl--pretty pretty and the voice is good, but that Yeehaw---rendition of 8 DAYS A WEEK made me twitch~! I hope she's next to exit stage left.

I so cannot stand Amanda Overdone...I have no idea why she is being pimped so fiercely by the judges...

And puleeze. could Paula get any MORE incoherent???? I can't understand a word she says...

I sorta like Paula--and honestly I think [deep down] she knows what she's talking about, but....damn girl you take too much time to say not a lot~! And the rhetoric clumsy attempts are jerky and irritating.
