Week 3 Girls

- Asia’h Epperson: Look out, its a Whitney song!!! And no, a second-rate Whitney is NOT good enough when you can be a first-rate YOU. My biggest problem with her is that she slurs too many words. She’ll be lucky to make it through.

- Kady Malloy: Interesting song choice, the love theme from Highlander. Too bad it didnt sound good. First in line for the chopping block.

- Amanda Overmeyer: One of the best songs she could have possibly chosen to sing. It was her style to a tee. The judges loved it. I was left feeling lukewarm however - I found her performance lacking, like she just wasnt putting as much into it as she could have. She seemed a bit nervous & self-conscious, & she didnt sound like she was able to keep her breath thru most of it. She later confirmed what I already suspected when she had to say that she was happy; thats when I knew for sure that, for whatever reason(s), she was in fact not.

- Carly Smithson: I disagreed with Simon, I thought it was a great song choice, which she did a great job with. Its that whole ‘theatrical drama rock’ style that fits her so well. She kinda reminds me of Laura Brannigan. One of the few consistent singers in the competition.

- Kristy Lee Cook: Just ok, that somewhat forced country twang did not help her gain any more ground than last week. She may be on the outs tonight.

- Ramiele Mulabay: How stoked is Ryan to finally have someone else’s height to mock? Her voice reminded me of an overtuned racecar spinning out in first gear. Her ‘big ol’ voice’ as Randy would say, seemed like it was idling far too high. The opposite of a few of the other girls, she actually had too much breath as she sang the stanzas. On the choruses she was able to breathe out the notes longer, but she never reached the heights her voice could have taken her because she started out so ‘revved up’.

- Brooke White: Another consistently good performer. She utilized one of the best ways to score points in this competition, which is to take a song a different direction instead of trying to mimick the original. Outstanding.

- Syesha Mercado: More Whitney!!! To my absolute surprise, she actually pulled it off! Ultimately, it was STILL a mimickry of the original, albeit a very good one. By far a better vocal than say, the likes of Brooke, but she still takes the back seat for lack of originality.
