I thought they both did pretty well last night, but I agree with Simon that David A. had the edge. I know many of you expressed you don't like his soft style, but I guess that's just going to be his niche, like country for Carrie Underwood or rock edge for Bo Bice , David C & Chris Daughtry.

BTW.......I found it interesting that the flashback intro included non-winner Chris Daughtry while Ryan was speaking about the contestants having to be there very best to move on to "stardom".

In reference to the last suggestion: "Stop Running them ragged". I recently saw an episode of Celebrity Fit Club (yeah, I know) in which Brian Dunkleman was on. And he just wanted to set the record straight that he wasn't fired from AI, he chose to leave because in his words "the way the show treats those kids is deplorable". He didn't elaborate..........

Final 3

I always enjoy seeing what the judges and producers pick for the contestants, but some of the selections are just damn odd, particularly the producers for both Syesha and David A. Of all the songs in the universe, they pick a Dan Fogelberg song for Archie when one of the perpetual criticisms of him is that he hasn't shown he is contemporary and hip and they pick the song from Happy Feet for Syesha...what the hell is up with that? They gave Cook a great song tho so it makes me think the producers want Cook to advance. I know there is producer manipulation in this show but these producer song choices make it pretty obvious....and I like Cook the best so I am glad its him they favored, still, I hate to see what I perceive as blatant producer manipulation.

Dial Idol suggests Cook crushed both Syesha and Archie last night and that Syesha goes home. And even though I think she was the victim of a bad song choice by the producers, she didn't do herself any favors with her song choice and at the end of the day, hasn't been as consistent, artistic or naturally as talented or unique as both Davids so I think she should go tonight. I'd like to see the long predicted (awaited) all David finale with David A winning, not b/c I prefer him, but b/c I think David C will do better if he is not the AI puppet. I assume if he comes in 2nd, he can select his own record company, one that won't meddle with his creativity/artistic process.

Paula going nowhere, but Idol Gives Back may

http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/TV/05/02/tv.americanidol.ap/index.html

For starters, Paula Abdul isn't going anywhere.

"Why would we get rid of Paula?" asks "Idol" exec Cecile Frot-Coutaz. She's "great for the show."

"Why would we get rid of Paula?" wonders Cecile Frot-Coutaz matter-of-factly, when questioned about possibly nixing the wacky "American Idol" judge now infamous for -- among other things -- critiquing both of Jason Castro's songs after he'd sung only one.

All the chatter about Abdul's slip-up during Tuesday's "Idol" performance show doesn't faze the FremantleMedia North America CEO and "Idol" executive producer. Nor did the subsequent speculation about the singing competition's authenticity.

And really, why should it?

"I love that everyone was talking about it," she told The Associated Press over lunch in her office two days after the show. "It was so unexpected. It was something that took up 2 seconds of airtime. You'd think there was no other news on television." Watch Abdul's befuddlement »

To Abdul's credit, the incident happened following an on-the-fly format switch.

"We thought it would be a good opportunity for the judges to give the contestants a good kick in the butt and tell them they were going to have to kick it up a notch for the second song," said Frot-Coutaz. "That decision happened during the live broadcast. It was at the very last minute, so Paula wasn't planning on doing any judging."

Don't Miss
Paula Abdul gets confused on 'Idol'
In the moment, Abdul claimed she skipped ahead to her notes on another contestant. It was later revealed the gaffe happened because she had scrawled some impressions on Castro when -- gasp! -- she saw his dress rehearsal.

This practice, revealed many times over in seasons past but not scrutinized until now, is hardly grounds for termination. To Frot-Coutaz, it's not even cause for blame.

"It's not her fault," she said.

Frot-Coutaz -- who oversees development, production and business operations of "Idol" and several other U.S. series, including NBC's "America's Got Talent" and the CW's "Farmer Wants a Wife" -- said Abdul is "great for the show" and called her a "great team player."

It's just the latest in the long line of "Idol" follies that have popped up since the show debuted on Fox in 2002 and went on to become the most-watched show on TV. Frot-Coutaz brushes off presumptions that "Idol" is manipulated.

Instead, she points to the fact that the show is very big -- and very live -- as the cause for all brouhaha.

While controversy isn't new for the franchise, slipping ratings have been. Viewership for the Tuesday performance show featuring Abdul's blunder were the lowest for "Idol" in five years. On Wednesday, over 22 million viewers tuned in to watch Brooke White eliminated from the competition, according to Nielsen Media Research.

"Nobody's alarmed by the ratings dip," said Frot-Coutaz. "We're still 7 million viewers ahead of the second-biggest show. And let's face it. TV has taken a huge decline this year. All the networks are down by quite a bit. I think the writers strike really hurt. A lot of viewers haven't come back. You can't just look at an isolation in the environment."

Addressing rumors about potential changes for season eight, Frot-Coutaz said adjustments may be made to evolve the show, but insisted there are no plans to rework or remove the audition episodes that have started each season. And -- besides Abdul -- there's also no plan to replace Randy Jackson, Simon Cowell or Ryan Seacrest.

"They're a great cast," said Frot-Coutaz. "They work very well together. If it's working, don't fix it."

One thing Frot-Coutaz is considering reworking: "Idol Gives Back." She was uncertain about how much the second "Idol" charity event would raise "when a lot of people can't afford to pay their mortgages," although she was "very pleased and surprised" with the $67 million in donations.

Despite that generous figure, she's not sure the segue will return next year.

"I would like to take a break, personally," said Frot-Coutaz. "In the U.K., they do 'Comic Relief' every two years. I think that's the right amount of time. I don't think you should go back to the country and ask them to donate every single year. I think it's too much. Every two years to me feels right."

Not so for "Idol" itself. Frot-Coutaz doesn't see an end in sight. She points to the longevity of another FremantleMedia-owned show.

"If we're smart about it, there's no reason why 'Idol' wouldn't keep going," said Frot-Coutaz. "Just look at 'Price is Right.' It's been on for over 35 years." E-mail to a friend

Carrie slayed me last night! She made every one of this years contestants appear mediocre at best. Granted she's got more experience by now than the rest, but damn! She even outdid George Michaels original. Of course, 'Praying for Time' was the perfect song to sing on a telethon that bombards you with the imagery of the suffering. I get choked up just reading the lyrics:

These are the days of the open hand
They might just be the last
Look around now
These are the days of the beggars and the choosers

This is the year of the hungry man
Whose place is in the past
Hand in hand with ignorance
And legitimate excuses

The rich declare themselves poor
And most of us are not sure
If we have too much
But we'll take our chances
'Cause God's stopped keeping score
I guess somewhere along the way
He must have let us all out to play
Turned his back and all God's children
Crept out the back door

And it's hard to love
There's so much to hate
Hanging on to hope
When there is no hope to speak of
And the wounded skies above
Say it's much too much too late
Well maybe we should all be praying for time

These are the days of the empty hand
Oh you hold on to what you can
And charity is a coat you wear twice a year

This is the year of the guilty man
Your television takes a stand
And you find that what was over there is over here

So you scream from behind your door
Say what's mine is mine and not yours
I may have too much but I'll take my chances
'Cause God's stopped keeping score
And you cling to the things they sold you
Did you cover your eyes when they told you
That he can't come back
'Cause he has no children to come back for

It's hard to love there's so much to hate
Hanging on to hope when there is no hope to speak of
And the wounded skies above say it's much too late
So maybe we should all be praying for time

I realize Amanda wasn't going to win, but I would liked to have seen her given more stage time. Maybe she didn't have the greatest voice, but she was a good performer. It seems like every year there's a cool rocker chick with a decent voice who gets voted off, and some boring vanilla prom queen gets to stick around for a few more rounds only to end up in the 'who is she?' pile a week or so later anyway. I don't get it.

Ramiele is gone. THANK GOD! I can not stand her. So I'm super happy
she is gone.

So who is going to be the big winner?

I really like Brook, Carly and Micheal John. What is up with David Archeltta <spelling>?
What is his appeal? Maybe it's because I'm "old" but I don't understand his
draw.

Ok, off to read more of the messages, I have not checked them for too long.

Are you drawn like a moth to a flame or Catholic Priest to an underage penis to the sheer genius that is A&E Intervention?

This Tribe is for you.

I personally can't enough of the middle aged midwestern female hard core alcoholics and the church going meth addicts.

On the flip side; This show can often be inspiring and greatly moving. All around a reason to own a television and bother with a pesky cable bill... the one thats always rising.

Come Discuss your favorite episodes and addicts.... You love or hate for the interventionist.

Top Ten!

What'd y'all think of this year's top ten idols?

1. Ramiele: A consistent underperformer at this point. Its especially frustrating because it really seems like she could do better - but doesnt, so I think shes likely going home.

2. Jason Castro: He ditched the Mr. Rogers sweater & went back to what works for him: the stool, the bare feet, & the guitar. His fans will love the Spanish lyrics he threw in. Im a fan too, just not like these screaming preteen girls. He does seem too relaxed when he plays, but I guess thats better than trying to sing with a stick shoved up your ass. During the talk with Ryan afterward, it was like a little light went on, his expression became temporarily alert & he remembered to pander to his niche by busting out the peace sign.

3. Syesha Mercado: We knew she could sing like this already but it was still a nice surprise to see her knock it out the park. If she can manage to do this every time she will be a force to be reckoned with.

4. Chikezie: A very dull off night. Hes sang Luther a while back I think & sounded good, but this time it was just bland. It just might be bland enough to get him sweating next to Ramiele tonight.

5. Brooke White: I didnt like the mix, & the performance lacked a certain spark. A case of right track but wrong train. She might hit the bottom three but shes not going anywhere still.

6. Michael Johns: Another Queen song for him, but this time it was the right mix. His brightest moment by far, as his star seems to be on the slow but steady rise. He seems to be improving as the show progresses.

7. Carly Smithson: I suppose it was inevitable that she sing this song. It was either this or Paradise By the Dashboard Light. More of that 'theatrical drama rock' I mentioned before. She's still solid, but I think her luster is wearing off the fans.

8. David Archuleta: I did not like the song. He only did a decent job with the vocal, but it was sooooo Disney. He should have been surrounded by muppets & care bears for better effect.

9. Kristy Lee Cook: I just spotted her image in the dictionary next to the word 'pander'. I gotta give it to her, it was one of the most cunning song choices Ive ever seen on the show. Plus she actually did a good job of it. She knew she was on borrowed time. Now, if you dont vote for her, youre a terrorist. Brilliant!

10. David Cook: he really seems to know how to work this competition better than just about any other contestant to hit that stage. He sang Chris Cornell singing Michael Jackson, but I suspect that Cook's version will instantly eclipse Cornell's to the point where most folks will accept it as Cook's mix. At this rate he'll be going platinum before the competition ends!

i guess if you can't sing, pander.

Was on Oprah Monday (3/17) to introduce Leona Lewis, who won The X Factor (Britian's version of AI).......I've posted her video from VH1.
He said he believes she has one of the best voices he's ever heard. (doesn't hurt that she's amazingly pretty as well).

http://www.vh1.com/video/play.jhtml?id=1583421&vid=206058

He also said that he believes 2 years ago when Taylor Hicks won is when the show turned from a talent competition to a popularity contest and the best singer that year was a fellow named Chris Daughtry :)

I always liked Chris on the show and having recently seen him open for and perform with Bon Jovi, I like him even more. I'm glad his career is going well, meanwhile where is Taylor Hicks????!!!

ok, this is probably petty....... but if I have to hear the word "pitchy" one more time, I think my head will explode. Maybe we should have an over/under each week on the word just to keep it interesting, and less annoying.

Also, (again being nitpicky-but since Randy likes to be such a name dropper of the music biz)........."Don't You Forget About Me" is a Simple Minds song.....not Inxs, whom I assume he meant because he referenced Michael Hutchence. And 2 weeks ago when one of the girls sang "Where the Boys Are", he said it was a tough job to cover Patsy Cline..... Dude, that song was done by Connie Francis.

Ok, I'm done now...........just had to get that off my chest ;0)

Am I the only one who has a hard time keeping track of who's been voted off and who's still in the competition? I missed the guys last night, so I don't know who's still there. And there are too many blonde girls... they all look alike to me! The AI website doesn't update the Top 24 page so you can't tell who's still in just by looking.

So, I put a picture in the photo gallery to keep track of who's still in the game.

I think I missed three girls who went home, and a guy. Was it... Amy, Kristy, Syesha and Danny?

I'll update it with whoever goes home tonite and re-post tomorrow.

The girl who sang 'Love is a Battlefield' tonite was simply awesome.

I also love the rocker chick with the white streaks in her hair, but the gal who covered Pat Benetar is the one to beat. All the others don't hold a candle.

Week 3 Girls

1 - Asia’h Epperson: Look out, its a Whitney song!!! And no, a second-rate Whitney is NOT good enough when you can be a first-rate YOU. My biggest problem with her is that she slurs too many words. She’ll be lucky to make it through.

2 - Kady Malloy: Interesting song choice, the love theme from Highlander. Too bad it didnt sound good. First in line for the chopping block.

3 - Amanda Overmeyer: One of the best songs she could have possibly chosen to sing. It was her style to a tee. The judges loved it. I was left feeling lukewarm however - I found her performance lacking, like she just wasnt putting as much into it as she could have. She seemed a bit nervous & self-conscious, & she didnt sound like she was able to keep her breath thru most of it. She later confirmed what I already suspected when she had to say that she was happy; thats when I knew for sure that, for whatever reason(s), she was in fact not.

4 - Carly Smithson: I disagreed with Simon, I thought it was a great song choice, which she did a great job with. Its that whole ‘theatrical drama rock’ style that fits her so well. She kinda reminds me of Laura Brannigan. One of the few consistent singers in the competition.

5 - Kristy Lee Cook: Just ok, that somewhat forced country twang did not help her gain any more ground than last week. She may be on the outs tonight.

6 - Ramiele Mulabay: How stoked is Ryan to finally have someone else’s height to mock? Her voice reminded me of an overtuned racecar spinning out in first gear. Her ‘big ol’ voice’ as Randy would say, seemed like it was idling far too high. The opposite of a few of the other girls, she actually had too much breath as she sang the stanzas. On the choruses she was able to breathe out the notes longer, but she never reached the heights her voice could have taken her because she started out so ‘revved up’.

7 - Brooke White: Another consistently good performer. She utilized one of the best ways to score points in this competition, which is to take a song a different direction instead of trying to mimick the original. Outstanding.

8 - Syesha Mercado: More Whitney!!! To my absolute surprise, she actually pulled it off! Ultimately, it was STILL a mimickry of the original, albeit a very good one. By far a better vocal than say, the likes of Brooke, but she still takes the back seat for lack of originality.

Week 3 Guys

1 - Luke Menard: I thought the song choice fit his style right, its just that his style wont take him any further than tomorrows elimination.

2 - David Archuleta: Another great job, but a notch below last week. While hes still ahead of the pack, the spread has been narrowed. Everything about the way he does his thing perfectly embodies Emo, and since this style is all the rage right now its probably his race to lose.

3 - Danny Noriega: I still like his personality but his performances are becoming a parody. I suspect he’ll get the boot behind Luke.

4 - David Hernandez: Nowhere near as good as last week, but decent for such a cheesy song choice. Its his style after all, which he owns with authority.

5 - Michael Johns: Most of the others can outsing him but he IS becoming interesting, albeit not fast enough. He still looks like he’s mimicking Morrison, but last night his vocals reminded me of a little known 80s singer named Tim Capello, who did a song for the Lost Boys soundtrack called “I Still Believe”.

6 - David Cook: A very odd song choice that worked almost TOO well. Hard rock meets lite rock. Basically, more Emo-style stuff. And because of it, he gets best performance of the night. He just went from second to last place among the guys to second place among them all.

7 - Jason Castro: I dont know if Id call it ‘brilliant’, but it certainly was nicely done. Whatever points he lost missing a few of the notes he made back in spades for pure emoting. NOT EMO, but EMOTING. He really looks like he gets lost in his performance, and that translates well. He comes off like a doof & an airhead, but also very gentle & sweet. Naieve & oblivious, though well-intentioned.

8 - Chikese: I thought he kicked ass, again. Granted, I think he chose another song that he was already comfortable singing. I definitely thought he did better than any of the judges said; and Simon ruling him out just because Whitney happened to have sung the same song at one point was just plain stupid. No one is allowed to sing ANYTHING that Whitney ever sang once, unless they can blow her outta the water? Whatever - Id like to see WHITNEY even try to sing her own songs now.

Week 2 Girls

Well, this ones gonna be quick, because I feel the same about nearly every girl who performed last night.

Syesha, Rameile, Amanda, Alaina, Alexandria, Kady & Asia'h: The biggest problem for all 7 of these girls was that they each chose a song that was absolutely WRONG for their vocal style.

Kristy Lee Cook - Sort of a surprise, she went from kinda sucky to slightly above average. The good news is she kicked it up a notch; the bad news is that she was down by three.

Carly Hennessy - The good news is she sounded pretty good; the bad news is that it was only by comparison to the rest of the girls' performances.

Brooke White - Great job, best of the night. What a kwinkiedink that the girl who sounds like Carly Simon sounds good singing a Carly Simon song. I just wonder what the judges might have thought of Amanda had she chosen a Janis song.

Top Ten Guys:

1 - Michael Johns: Continuing this year’s tradition of a weak opening.

2 - Jason Castro: Very reminiscent of another prettyboy from a few years back named Ace. The camera loves him but he’s outmatched vocally. But I doubt he’s going anywhere for a little while yet.

3 - Luke Menard: Proving once again that taking a song with a signature style and trying to mimick it will get you nowhere.

4 - Robbie Carrico: Decent on the stanzas, but he drops out in the chorus. He’s got a good sound but his biggist issue is projection.

5 - Danny Noriega: He continues to slowly grow on me, tho his performance seemed very self-conscious. He sings better than he dances.

6 - David Hernandez: When the tune sticks in my head the next day, I call it a resounding success. Such is the case with Hernandez’s version of Papa Was A Rolling Stone. He commanded attention & sounded great throughout. Awesome ending. My fave performance of the night.

7 - Jason Yaeger: Whatever his problem was, song choice was NOT it. There is no reason he could not have sung it with passion, but he didnt. Bad ending. I think he's on his way out.

8 - Chikeze: He stepped it up & kicked some ass! I must have helped being able to sing a song he already knew how to perform comfortably. The third best act - tho I wonder how he will handle music that he is unfamiliar with.

9 - David Cook: He sounds ok, but Im trying to place who he sounds almost exactly like. He can play & sing, which is good, but ultimately I think he’d be better off as part of a rock band instead of a solo Idol.

10 - David Archuleta: Thats some balls doing Imagine, but he put even more emotion into the song than it already had & ruled it! He’s not my fave guy but he’s definitely the most gifted. Nearly effortless & the one to beat!

Week 1 Guys

What are your impressions from the first round of guys?

1. David Hernandez: He can sing, just not last night. He started out like he intended to kick some ass, then saw all those bright lights & eyes staring back & his nerves ate through him like Alien blood. First song, first night, first bomb.

2. Chikeze: I liked him more than the judges did. A very smooth performance. Unfortunately, too smooth.

3. David Cook: Apparently the judges heard it the way it SHOULD have been sung. He added about 15% punk inflection to the song when it should have been pushed to 100% - then & only then would such a sickly sweet song have enough sardonic flavor to be labeled ‘current’.

4. Jason Yeager: More crappy song choices, & a forgettable performance. Am I wrong to have an innate distrust for people who have that little patch of discolored hair?

5. RobbieCarrico: Above average vocal. He sounds just like Triumph. Its a good thing.

6. David Archuleta: The judges loved him but Im lukewarm at best. He can sing, but he doesnt inflect. Songs heavy on the lyrics like last night do him an injustice - less words equal better performance for him. His mannerisms after the song reminded me of the shy little vulture from Looney Tunes. “Im bringing home a baby bumblebee...”

7. Danny Noriega: ANOTHER crappy song for the singer. How are you supposed to make Jailhouse Rock current? Terrible performance, but I actually like him more afterward. Waiting to hear these kids sing other songs...

8. Luke Menard: A boring song, but I think he hit his target for that kind of music. Which Paula nailed - he sounds just like Kenny Loggins (singing Jim Croche). The judges were slightly harder than I wouldve been, but still it wasnt a great performance.

9. Colton Berry: Crappy song, crappy performance. Id put him in last at this point.

10. Garrett Haley: Lief Garretts lovechild - hes got a great voice for the RIGHT SONG, which wasnt. Agreed, he didnt do anything with the song. I still like him & am eager to hear him sing something else. Can anyone tell me WTF is with so many of these kids adopting faint English accents??? Hes from IDAHO for frikks sake!

11. Jason Castro: Ladies & gentlemen, we have a ringer! First time weve heard him, & I thought he outdid everyone else by a mile. A great smile, & an easy effortless way about his performance. It mightve been the lights, but I swear I saw rainbows shooting out of his ass. He sounded great at least until he stopped singing, when every three seconds an expression came over him like he’s thinking “Whoa. Wow. This is... cool. Trippy!”

12. Michael Johns: I did not like him as much as the judges. The first half of the song was basically a shameless Morrison imitation. Voice, mannerisms, the way he held the mike. Toward the end he finally changed to his own voice, which is much more along the lines of Foreigner than Doors, & it sounded decent. By then it was too late.

What are your impressions from the first round of girls?

1. Kristy Lee Cook: As vanilla as it gets, only with less flavor.

2. Joanne Borgella: I like her, but she bombed pretty hard.

3. Alaina Whitaker: No complaints, no wows.

4. Amanda Overmyer: Rockers should never attempt scat. She’s not the most talented but may have the most personality. She would likely sound good singing any form of blues-rock.

5. Amy Davis: She made Joanne sound good.

6. Brooke White: I dont mind her sunny disposition & I like her vocals. She’s safe for now but she’s going to need a LITTLE angst put into her style to match the passion coming from a few of the others.

7. Alexandra Lushington: A decent singer & a better performer. She reminds me of a strange mix of Kim Wayans, Gwen Stefani, & Caroll Burnett.

8. Kady Malloy: A decent job. She seems like she’d be better with a different song choice.

9. Asia’h Epperson: Good job. Lots of passion & attitude added to another lame song.

10. Ramiele Malubay: “Little Big Voice.” I think she’s my fave girl at this point. Pound for pound, she’s got more bang in her buck.

11. Syesha Mercado: Another good singer tackling a crappy song. I think she did the best she could with it.

12. Carly Smithson: Yes, I like her, yes she’s talented, but no, it was not the best vocal. But I would certainly put it within the top three. Maybe four.

All in all, a big test for all 24 contestants to take these crappy-assed songs & try to make them ‘current’. Something in which I think is only possible with a FEW of the songs we’ve heard, and even then only with the right singer. So any standouts this early on will likely make it pretty far in the competition.

Paula was certainly on the ‘ups’. I think she was hiding a doumbek under her desk. It was like she was doing her critiques beatnick-style.

Come on people, are y'all so distracted by the "real world" to talk about this year's Idol?

What'd everyone think of the auditions? Anyone got an early frontrunner prediction?

I liked the Luther Vandross-style guy, & the chick that sounded like Janis, who sounded much better when she wasnt singing a Janis song.

Being in the Philly area.........I watched with special interest.

The fat guy in the Belly dancer outfit.........please!!!! ,....he was obviously there just for his 15 minutes of fame, if the producers of the show wouldn't add fuel to the fire by actually putting these people on t.v, perhaps less of them would show up and leave room for the actual singers.
When they showed the winners at the end, there were several that we never saw, because the time was filled with the goofiness, such as "sparkly girl" from Allentown and Milo, the 39 year old.

And the guy in the mustard suit who was the tour guide and said his co-workers encouraged him to go..............well, I can only say, his co-workers must not like him very much. It was obvious he couldn't sing.

The overweight the 16 year old (i thought she was older)........did anyone notice the look on Simon's face when the judges walked her out? Paula and Randy, I think were sincere.........but Simon looked annoyed that he was being asked to be sympathetic.

Just when I decided that I probably won't watch Idol next year, I've been bombarded with promotion for American Band this fall. Yeah, like I want to watch a bunch of b-grade cover bands on TV (assuming that like Idol the bands will just perform covers all season)....

Apparently Blake didn't want to perform finale night because the producers wouldn't let him alter or personalize his single and he was very unhappy with the song that was given to him. He also was going to wear a "VOTE FOR JORDIN" t-shirt but the producers made him take it off.

Jordin auditioned in LA and didn't even make it, which is why she went to Seattle to audition again. Fortunately she made it through in Seattle.

A friend invited us over for pasta and adult beverages last night, so we tivo'd the finale.

We got home at around 10:30 and started watching it. After the first round of performances I turned to Red and said that I just couldn't watch it anymore.

I am disgusted that Mindy Doo isn't up there. And all of Jordin's blatant begging was making me wanna hurl.

I won't be watching tonight either. I'll just read about it on the internets tomorrow.

The most anti-climactic (sp?) season of AI thusfar. Shame, shame, shame on the voters.

Corey Clark sighting

Does anyone know if Corey Clark is in NYC? I swear to Tori Spelling that he was sitting across from me on the 1 train today when I was going down to Home Depot. He looked bad, like whorrible. He kept nodding off. He had the diamond studs in his ears, and a really expensive looking watch, but that's where the pretty ended. His hair was like this http://www.mtv.com/shared/media/news/images/c/Clark_Corey/sq_color_promo_amer_idol.jpg except it was in a rounded semi-afro. It wasn't even retro-afro cool, it just looked like that Soul Glow guy from Coming to America took off his hair, wrang out a bit of the juice, and plopped it onto Corey's head. He was pretty tall and skinny, and he was wearing this hideous matching knee-length shorts and button-down shirt combo outfit. Kind of like something you would see on Heavy D. FIFTEEN YEARS AGO. I was tempted to cough *hack*Corey*coughcough* to see if he would look over so I could confirm for certain, but I didn't work up the nerve. I just kept staring at his face while he was nodding off and trying to memorize details so when I got home I could google Corey Clark and see if the pictures matched this guy. They're separated-at-birth twins if that wasn't really Corey.

All three were good tonight, though Jordin kinda punked out with the third song -- one she's already performed. Hate to say it, but ditto (somewhat) Melinda's "Woman." Maybe now, though, I can download it.

Cowell bottom-lined it: The award for most consistent performer all season goes to Melinda.

The "Nutbush" choice for Melinda was some serious Clive Davis-style sabotage by the producers. They've run that lazy, lame-assed comparison to Tina Turner into the ground.

I don't care who goes home, so long as it's not Melinda. If she goes, it's definitely rigged. Then I'll be done with "Idol."

Who Are Your Top 2

Well I've survived to the Final 4 in my Idol Pool and tonights vote is critical for me to continue on ...

I think Kiki is going to go so tonight I have to vote for who will come in Third there by leaving my top 2 to go to the finals. I feel sick inside thinking about. right now I want to say Jordin and Melinda are my top 2 .. but maybe folks are getting tired of her and Jordin and Blake willbe in the finals.

hmmmmm .. what do YOU think?

I had a bizarre dream last night...

I dreamed I was a contestant on American Idol. I made it though the first few rounds even though I really didn't want to compete. I can't sing worth a lick, so I was terrified that I kept having to come back and perform when I knew I sucked. It was competition night and I hadn't submitted a song or practiced at all. I thought I could just not show up and they'd let me drop out. But in my dream found myself backstage and they called my name. I was freaked out that I had to go on without even knowing the words to the song.

So I went out on stage and spun poi instead.

Of course, in my dreams I'm a much better spinner than I am in real life. I had a blast.

Probably a surprise to no one. No shocker. Still hate to see her go.

Actually enjoyed the declaration "Stayin' Alive" much better tonight. Didn't seem corny at all.

On those two rare occasions when Melinda's gotten negative criticism, it was the same: She wasn't great -- in the judges' opinions. As usual, the performances were flawless, just not great. I liked both her songs tonight. "How Can You Mend...?" was better.

Really wish LaKisha hadn't done "Stayin' Alive." Wasn't as corny as I was afraid it would be, just wish she'd done somethin' else. "Run To Me' was better.

Guess Jordin redeemed herself from Bon Jovi night.

Blake wasn't at his best, but I'm afraid Kiki will go before he does.

It would have been more fitting that Bon Jovi be on last season while Chris Daughtry was still a contestant.

I'm guessing tonite's them is rock?

Great, classy show tonight. I was really impressed. However, the twist at the end did not surprise me. About half-way through I said to my husband, "I bet they aren't going to eliminate anyone tonight - its not consistent with the spirit of the evening." Score one! Didn't foresee the double elim for next week though. That is pretty crazy!

I think a ton of people must be donating online as I type b/c I can't even get the www.idolaid.com website to load. I hope so - the situation in Africa is intolerable and, while the poverty in the US is generally a bit less extreme, there are so many needy people - especially in my college town of New Orleans.

Now, on to more pressing concerns, like wardrobe :) Was it just me or was Paula's half-cup bustier just too much (or more appropiately, too little?) And has Kelly Clarkson put on all the weight she lost plus 15 more pounds or was that just an extremely unflattering dress?

Didn't anyone here notice Simon rolling his eyes when Chris made his comments about the Va Tech tragedy? Immediately after the next commercial break Simon made his remarks about the judges' condolences.

I'd imagine that the show's producers told him rather quickly to do some damage control.

I know why he did it...because he was thinking Chris was just going for some sympathy points...but it was a major screw-up on Simon's part.

I'm figuring this is going to gain steam and drag on into next week. And it wouldn't surprise me to hear an on-air apology from Cowell.

My dream Final 3 still is Melinda, LaKesha and Jordin. But I get the sick feeling it'll look more like Melinda, Jordin and Blake.

Last.fm is a British music site whose listeners "scrobble" their tracks. To date, Idol finalists stack up with these number of plays scrobbled on Last.fm .

Phil Stacey -- 2,461
LaKisha Jones -- 2,895
Sanjaya Malakar -- 4,069
Melinda Doolittle -- 4,663
Jordin Sparks -- 8,257
Chris Richardson -- 12,746
Blake Lewis -- 27,310

I'm not particularly concerned about Chris, Sanjaya or Phil. But Blake's in it for the long haul, I'm sure.

Is anyone else out there feeling like I do--it's OK to watch, but ~REALLY~ I don't
give a flying fig who wins. Yes Melinda is good, as is Kiki--and damn if Sanjaya
didn't pull it off---I mean I actually enjoyed the performance [kinda, sorta, maybe]
where as otherwise it's like finger nails screeching across the black-board, until it's done~!

Auuoooum I must do more meditation, WHATEVER.

I like the fact, I didn't dislike SM.....because call me ~Paula~, I don't enjoy it when people get on my nerves,
although that's a state I find me in often. So yay, last night I didn't want to
slap Sanjaya silly~!

American Idol Pool Help

Saying this season is boring is a given, but I'm in a "survivor pool" and I have a financial investment in the show ;-)

OK, so the way the pool works is that each week you have to pick someone who is NOT going to be voted out BUT once you pick that person once you can not pick them until until we get to the Final 4. So with that being said, there are four weeks left and I have 4 people I can still choose .. Melinda, Jordin, Blake and Lakesha.

Who do I pick this week?

I think Melinda and Blake will go to the top 2, that leaves me with Lakesha or Jordin to pick this week. I love jordin and think she connects iwth the crowd .. Lakesha hasn't warmed to me yet although she can sing.

So who would you vote for?

I"ve got a 6 pm eastern deadline ;-)

Gina, while probably not a better singer than Melinda, Lakisha, or Jordin, was nonetheless a fantastic singer/performer.

The fact that talentless Sanjaya remains week after week...coupled with the fact that he's made the tour...really hurts the credibility of AI.

I'm sure he's a perfectly nice boy. I'm sure he honestly believes he deserves to remain in the running.

But it seems that he is taking the stage with the knowledge that he can put any old crap out there and it won't matter...there are enough Stern/VFTW/India voters putting him thru each week that he can do whatever the hell he wants.

Its almost as if he's not even trying...and that makes it a shame that folks like Gina are being shown the door while his smarmy little ass is safe each and every week.

I sure as shit hope that Randy, Paula, and Simon learn something from this.

And I'm assuming that putting Sanjaya as a finalist was not intentional.

Favorite male/female

Now that we are down to 9 - who is your favorite male and female contestant and why?

My two faves are Blake and Jordin.

Blake is cool and I love his vibe and song choices; he performs music I would actually listen to. He is also a great stage performer.

Jordin is so fun and versatile. She has covered so many genres and has done them all beautifully and elegantly, while not sacrificing her joie de vivre. I prefer her to Melinda and Lakisha b/c of her versatility. I can't see either Melinda or Lakisha performing music I would choose to listen to or buy and I find myself getting bored by both of them. I also like Gina b/c our musical tastes are very similar and I love most her song choices. If her voice and personality were stronger, she would be my fave chick. But for now its Jordin.

What was the deal with the crying blonde girl? I missed the beginning so I don't know if they talked about her then. Perhaps she was just some random tween who represents the Sanjaya vote. Who knows.

Speaking of Sanjaya, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE America, do not vote him through to next week. He was painful to listen to and watch.

I thought Jordin was the best. She picked an interesting song and sung it amazingly well.

I am not a huge fan of Lakisha or Melinda. While I agree that they are good singers, they don't excite me.

I didn't think Blake was that great. Maybe it was the song.

Tonight's show was a million times better than last week's bore fest.

Final 12....

Show was kind of boring imo. Most of the performers lived up to the expectation they have already established for themselves. As usual, girls were better than boys.

I thought it was hilarious that Simon totally Ryan to come out of the closet. I mean, we all know Ryan is in the closet, but for Simon to just straight out say it. Ryan, of course, deflected it back on Simon but he had to be pissed.

Bottom 3 prediction:
Haley, Sanjaya, Phil

Going Home:
Haley

Aren't they the ones who picked the top 24? They put Sanjaya Malakar, Antonella Barba and the others through. Sanjaya probably has everyone in India (the 2nd largest populated country) voting for him/her. Antonella just got by on her tits and ass. So people grin and bear it and blame it on the judges.

Screwed so far: AJ, Sabrina, Sundance and (no matter what you mighta thought of him) Paul Kim. A case could maybe be made for Nick Pedro.

And it's all attributable to VFTW?

Well, a coupla things went right. Like his pretty-boy predecessor Ace Young, Mr. Cotter remained cocky to the end. Thought sure he'd be around. I'd feel sorry for Antonella if she were one of the better vocalists. Whether the scandal was a factor, her expulsion was the right call.

Sanjaya needs to thank whatever sacred he believes in -- and VFTW? -- for his ridiculous luck.

Why do the judges and contestants always act so surprised when the 'vote for the worst' idol keeps coming back, and someone good goes home? They act like they can't imagine what happened. Surely, they are all aware of VFTW, why don't they just acknowledge it, and maybe take some of the steam out of it?

Damn, these guys were boring.

Wonder who the four are the judges think should stay? I'm guessin' Blake, Sligh, Brandon and a tossup between Chris Richardson and Phil.

Only one I was feelin' tonight was Blake, and I wasn't all that crazy about his performance. Sanjaya needs to go along with Mr. Cotter. Brandon seems to be goin' for Season 6's Most Goofy. I just can't muster any interest in Phil. Sundance is a really big disappointment. Not feelin' Sligh like I was in the beginning. The pretty boy is useless, and I really don't hear what the judges hear when Richardson sings.

Taylor sucking at charts

Simon Cowell says Taylor Hicks won because Idol 5 was a “popularity contest”

Because this season of American Idol is so dull, Simon Cowell decided to make news by slamming previous seasons’ contestants. Specifically, he’s criticizing Taylor Hicks, whose record sales are unimpressive, and Jennifer Hudson, who didn’t thank the show after winning an Oscar.
At the Museum of Television & Radio late last week, Simon said, “At the end of the day, you’ve got to find a bona fide recording artist, because without that success, the competition doesn’t mean anything. That’s where we have to be careful that this doesn’t turn into a popularity contest, because if it’s a popularity contest, it’s like winning Big Brother, and nothing’s gonna happen. That’s what happened with Chris [Daughtry] and Taylor [Hicks, from season five]. Chris is the one who sold the albums. Taylor hasn’t,” E! Online’s Kristin reports.
Simon was particularly irritated by Jennifer Hudson’s Oscar speech, because it showed her to be one of those contestants who “deliberately turn against the show that made them successful.” People reports that he said, “Jennifer Hudson said American Idol was a ‘stepping stone’ for her. Stepping stone? It was her big opportunity to become noticed and she got noticed and she got Dreamgirls. … The reason (people) come on the show is because all the doors had been slammed in their face.”

Who will be next to exit? I say surely Sanjaya and perhaps Sundance, although I like Sundance I think his range is very limited. And with the girls, I'm not keen on Gina or Antonella--but ya never know?

Protest planned over Idol’s “double standard” between Antonella and Frenchie, who wants “a public apology”

Protest planned over Idol’s “double standard” between Antonella and Frenchie, who wants “a public apology”

Reaction to the photographs of Antonella Barba has led ousted season two contestant Frenchie Davis to ask for “a public apology” from the show’s producers about the way they treated her.
Frenchie, who was removed from the competition because she’d once worked for a pornographic web site, went on to work for Entertainment Tonight and act in a production of Dreamgirls.
“I had stopped watching ‘American Idol’, and I’ve tried to avoid even speaking about or thinking about what happened four years ago. But I couldn’t help but overhear what was happening with Antonella. I couldn’t help but notice the manner in which she was dealt with was the complete opposite of how I was dealt with,” Frenchie tells EURweb.
While at first “joking that the network could write her a check,” as EURweb reports, Frenchie later said through her representative that the show’s producers could begin with “issuing her a public apology and then she would negotiate with them from there.”
Although the site’s story assumes the more graphic sexual photos of Antonella are real, which her best friend denies, the show’s hypocrisy is clear: Frenchie notes now, as she did then, that she’d previously told the show’s producers about her past, and says that her pictures weren’t widely distributed. Nor did the show’s judges and host speak publicly in support of Frenchie, as they did with Antonella. And EURweb says that “Davis is plus size, Barba is thin; and then there’s the fact that Davis is black, Barba is white.”
A rally will be held to make that point tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, and will be attended by activist Najee Ali and others, including “season one ‘Idol’ Producer Tarvenia Jones, Frenchie Davis (by phone), and Belinda Foster, manager of Frenchie Davis,” according to EURweb

I agree with Sanjaya. You know AJ shoulda stayed.

I thought Nick would stick around a little while.

Gotta say I'm not as disappointed over the women who were cut, though I thought Antonella was gone for sure. Think she did, too.

Predictions for the girls

1) Lakisha Jones - the girl is just phenomenal. She needs a new stylist though - she should dress more like the diva she is. Top 12 for sure.

2) Melinda Doolittle - wow, she’s sooooo cool, and so talented. Top 12 for sure.

3) Stephanie Edwards - I really hated the Beyonce song she did, but she pulled it off because she’s great. And so beautiful! Top 12, yes.

4) Sabrina Sloan - I don’t particularly love her, but she’s good and she’ll make it to the top 12.

5) Jordin Sparks - she’s so appealing and cute, and has a really nice voice and stage presence. I bet she’ll make it to the top 12.

6) Gina Glocksen - I like rocker chicks but I want her to pick better songs. I hope she’ll make it to the top 12, but she’s gotta work harder to stay in the game.

7) Haley Scarnato - she’s okay, she’ll probably be safe for another week.

8) Leslie Hunt - I just don’t like her, not sure why. Her style is weird, and her voice is just okay.

9) Alaina Alexander - time to go home, she’s out of her league.

10) Antonella Barba - wow did she bastardize that song. I think she should stick to soft porn modeling.

The guys did improve a thousandfold, but none of 'em are even close to the best women.

AJ and Blake were the only two who really did anything for me I liked Pedro, too, except for a really shaky part in the middle of 'Fever.' He was seriously workin' that soulful Yamin vibe, though.

I wasn't feelin' all that praise for Phil. Sundance didn't bring it for me, either.

I agreed with judges on Sanjaya and Brandon.

I figured out why the pretty boy irks me so much: It's Ace all over again. Pretty much phonin' in the performances expecting his drooling fans to pick up the slack.

Predictions for the guys

From best to worst...

1) Blake Lewis - fantastic. I hope he picks more alternative music. He’ll make it to the top 12.

2) Chris Sligh - this guys is awesome. The coolest dude by far. I think he’s more of a band lead than solo artist, but he’s just so talented and likable. He’ll make it to the top 12.

3) Chris Richardson - he reminded me of Justin Timberlake, who I can’t stand. But, Chris is talented, and very marketable, so he’ll make it to the top 12.

4) Sundance Head - he’s talented, yes, but a tad boring... I could see guys as good as him with their band in a local bar. And that schmutz in his chin is so hard on the eyes. I bet he’ll make it to the top 12 though, cuz we gotta lot of classic rock fans in America, but he’s a lead for a band, not a solo artist. (I miss Bo.)

5) Jared Cotter - so hot. I like him. I want him to stick around and sex it up.

6) Phil Stacey - he’s cute, and pretty good. I don’t think he’ll make it to the top 12, but I’d like to see him prove me wrong.

7) Nicholas Pedro - he does nothing for me. He has a nice voice, but you gotta have more than that to win... and he just ain’t got ‘it’.

8) AJ Tabaldo - I don’t even remember him, so I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt that he won’t get voted off... this time.

9) Brandon Rogers - time to go home.

10) Sanjaya Malakar - oh my. He’s so damn cute, but just so out of his league. Time to go home young man.
